Our contribution to world peace through music
As the current crisis is taking place across the ocean, we wanted to do our part as musicians in wishing for world peace. This week, we made this video with Scott’s new arrangement of Bill Evans’ Peace Piece, a calm and meditative piece, along with footages from this peaceful view of a calm lake where we tried to spell out a the peace sign with rocks.
We were very lucky to film by the lake this time! Usually there are tons of people here when it’s not raining because it’s quite accessable to the public. On weekends and sunny days, you will find families picnicking right here. We wanted to have a peaceful image to go with the music, so we had filming by the lake in mind. However, the forecast was showing a whole week of rain, so we were thinking of plan B but couldn’t come up with one. Meanwhile, we weren’t sure what we should film by the lake other than the beautiful scenery, either.
The idea finally came to me the night before, when I saw a peace sign, I thought that’s what we should do by the lake! So I sort of did some thinking of what and how to film in my head right before falling asleep that night. At this point we were still not sure when to film by the lake because of the rain. The next morning when I woke up, guess what?! NO RAIN! There was no rain, just clouds! We checked the weather forecast, and it said it would stay cloudy for a few hours before the rain comes, so we decided to take a bet on the spot and do the filming that day! I very quickly drew some pictures for the storyboard to show Scott some ideas, and we did a quick discussion. An hour later, we rushed to the lake, and guess what again?! NO ONE WAS THERE! It’s as if the universe is helping us out! We were expecting several families to be there, but there was absolutely no one at the beach! How lucky was that!
We did have to rush a little bit because we knew it would start raining soon, and it did a little bit just when we were about done. The lake was beautiful with the clouds, it was really as if it was a painting! I wish there were some other shots and angles that I could have included, but we are still very happy with how it turned out and how lucky we were!
We were told that young kids may not recognize the peace sign anymore…we wonder!
