Playing at Silk Purse after almost 3 years!
By Clare
As we were arriving at Silk Purse Arts Centre on Sept. 27th morning, we were trying to remember when it was the last time we came. To our surprise, it has been almost 3 years since we last played here!
As we mentioned to the audiences from both concerts, Silk Purse has a special meaning to us. It was the first place we ever played as a duo together. Back then, Sara was the director. Scott had a concert with a violinist at Silk Purse and I went with him as either his fiancee or new wife. Sara learned that I am also a pianist, so she asked if we had played together yet. (Side story: I actually met Scott because I hired him as my accompanist for a concerto competition…haha!) We had not played duets together then, so Sara suggested maybe we could do something together, and so she sent us an invitation! So our first duo concert happened a few months later!
It was from that experience, we felt quite comfortable playing with each other and we enjoyed working together. (We thought our marriage should be okay, so we could continue to work together! Haha…) So one concert turned into three, and later turned into more!
It was so nice to see many familiar faces that we hadn’t seen since the pandemic! It felt like home! We missed the special ocean view in the background during our performances, the lovely people’s laughter to our surprises in the performances, the cozy intimate feeling, and the power of the 9-foot grand!
Thank you to West Vancouver Arts Council for the invitation. Thank you to all who came to both of the concerts! We have missed you, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
