Performing outdoors under the rain!
by Scott
This past weekend, we had a very memorable and fun-filled experience, touring with members of the Vancouver Island Symphony in a series of six outdoor pop-up concerts.
Here is one of the pieces we played, my arrangement of the Love Theme (by Andrea Morricone, son of Ennio Morricone) from the Italian film Cinema Paradiso. In the first concert, before playing the piece, I gave a description of a scene in the film where the main character is showing a projected film outdoors, and it starts to rain. His love interest then shows up in the rain, and they share a passionate kiss as the love theme plays in the soundtrack.
After the concert, violinist Calvin Dyck jokingly made a suggestion that Clare and I should also kiss during the performance, so the next day, that’s what we did!
Also, we planned another surprise: Clare pretended to be a member of the audience who volunteered to sight-read a piano duet with me!
In the performance that you’ll see here, just by sheer chance, it started to rain while we were playing the piece, just like in the movie! Quite fitting indeed!
PS check out Clare’s blog post about the experience too!
