Ever seen Libertango played by 8 hands?
We are honoured to be invited by 檸檬卷LemonJanet and 好和弦NiceChord.com to collaborate on this all-time favourite, Libertango by Piazzolla! We had so much fun, and we loved this experience of collaboration! They’re wonderful musicians, and we hope to collaborate in person some time in the future!
By the way, just a heads up……blooper from our recording session coming soon!
We were so excited when Janet invited us to her channel doing a collaboration, because we have been holding on to this 8-hands version of Libertango arranged by Kyoko Yamamoto for the longest time, but we didn’t get to play it with anyone. So when Janet brought up the idea, we thought maybe this could be the chance to play this piece!
So then we sent over the score to have them look at it first, and they also liked it, so we decided on it! (How exciting!!! We finally could play this version after all these years!!!)
I had done the editing job for Rush E a while back, so I kind of knew that this editing job would be a challenging one! (Really good job Janet!!!) The plan was that we record our part and send it over, and they would then play to our recording.
So here’s a little spoiler from our upcoming blooper. On the day of our recording session, I thought of the bongo that we bought a while back. So I went to take it out of the cabinet. This was the first time I took it out of the box since we moved over a year ago. I also found this stick, which used to go with this frog-shaped little percussion instrument, but I didn’t see the frog anywhere in the box. Scott said it might be somewhere in the back of the cabinet, so I didn’t think much or look for it. I just took out the bongo for our recording session. After the intro, there are markings in the score indicating hitting the piano to represent percussion, and that when I would use the bongo. I was hitting the bongo on my lap until I had to play, and I would bring the bongo to the side of the piano stand. So during one take, when I brought the bongo to the stand, I felt something laying on my dress in my laps. I tried to stay focus and not be distracted by it, but eventually, I was distracted! So I looked down, and THERE IT WAS!!! The frog was sitting in my lap! We both burst out in laughs……that’s where the frog was! It was inside the bongo! Haha…….
Anyways, so the recording session was fun, and after the frog was taken care of, it was all good! We then sent over the recording, and they recorded their part, and voila! Here is the fiery, exciting, and passionate performance of Libertango by Piazzolla, performed by Janet Lee, Wiwi Kuan, and us The Meeks Duo!
