Meeting up with my former teacher and his wife!
by Scott
This past weekend, we had the great privilege of attending a concert of chamber music played by Angela Cheng and the Vetta Chamber players, along with three piano 4-hand Slavonic Dances by Dvorak played by Angela and her husband Alvin Chow. Alvin was my undergraduate teacher at the Oberlin Conservatory, and it is always nice to see him and Angela whenever they visit Vancouver. The concert was beautiful and exciting, and was extra special because I got to turn pages for the 4-hand pieces! Page-turning can be a scary thing, but luckily it went smoothly on my part, and hearing their playing up close was really inspiring! (The night before the concert, we also attended a piano duo masterclass taught by Alvin and Angela, and enjoyed it very much!)
After the concert, even though they had an early flight to catch the next morning, Angela and Alvin agreed to hang out with us for a late night meal. It was a really fun time and we look forward to our next meeting! Alvin and Angela are great role models for us and other musician couples, and we are thankful to know the personally!
P. S. Clare says this was her first time watching a married couple play piano four hands since we got married, and it does have a special charm when it’s a married couple playing at the same piano!
